Ingredients
  • 1 pack tofu (firm or extra firm)
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • 2 tablespoons tamari (gluten-free) sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • For the sticky sauce
  • 4 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon chopped garlic
  • 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon chili pepper flakes (flexible with your heat tolerance)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 3 tablespoons tamari sauce (gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons corn starch

Directions
  • Step 1 For the Tofu:
  • Step 2 Begin by pressing the block of tofu on a plate with a weighted pan on top for 10 minutes. This helps press the water (excess moisture out of the tofu).
  • Step 3 Drain any water and slice into small bite-size cubes. Add this to a bowl and then add the corn starch, garlic salt, and pepper and gently turn over to coat all pieces.
  • Step 4 Using a non-stick large pan (or grill) heat thoroughly and add a tablespoon of oil.
  • Step 5 Arrange the pieces of coated tofu on the non-stick surface and cook until golden and then flip to the other side (about 4 minutes on each side).
  • Step 6 In a separate bowl, start pulling together the sticky sauce.
  • Step 7 Add all of the ingredients under the sauce and using a fork or whisk, blend thoroughly, and set aside.
  • Step 8 Drizzle this over the cooked tofu while still on the heated non-stick surface and coat thoroughly by flipping over. This takes about 2 – 3 minutes.
  • Step 9 Remove from heat and serve!
  • Step 10 Great with rice, steamed broccoli (either next to or mixed in with the tofu).
